POSITION LOCATION: 2024/2025 School year  location to be Determined

 SALARY:AAEA Teacher salary schedule 

 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Building Principal, District EL Director



Position Summary:
Ann Arbor Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified teacher to provide English Language instruction to all qualifying ELs through direct/indirect services depending on the student’s needs. The EL teacher collaborates with general education teachers to ensure the ELs receive content instruction that is accessible to the language level, while learning English. The EL teacher supports instruction of the mainstream class by discussing/modeling content delivery using ESL/sheltered or content specific instruction that are essential for ELs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • - Bachelor’s degree or higher in education
  • - Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with endorsements in ESL (NS) or Bilingual Education (YT) - Additional ELA or English endorsement preferred - SIOP training is a plus - Previous experience working with multilingual learners and their families

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide instruction to support English language and content development
  • Provide targeted language acquisition support for newcomers or ELs who have reached a plateau in
  • their academic and linguistic growth.
  • Introduce and develop grade-level proficiency of academic and content concepts and vocabulary
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to provide accommodations for instruction and
  • assessment to make district content more accessible to ELs
  • Ability to work effectively between multiple elementary buildings
  • Provide classroom teachers and support staff with cultural and linguistic background of language
  • minority students
  • Provide assistance in identifying potential ELs
  • Identify ELs for appropriate class placement/scheduling using various measures
  • Maintain accurate records: HLS, PNL, /WIDA/Kindergarten Screener
  • Advocate for multilingual students and their families
  • Facilitate professional development at the building level in best practices in English language acquisition
  • methods (SIOP)
  • Serve on Achievement Team Meetings, IEPs, or MET’s where ELs are involved
  • Evaluate pupil's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Communicate effectively and present information both in oral and in written form

REASONING ABILITY:
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Interpret an extensive variety of statistical information and data related to student achievement.

  • Ability to use multiple platforms and tools to engage ELs
