GRADES: 9-12
STATUS: Full-time, 10-month position

Position Description:
Las Américas ASPIRA Academy is seeking a highly qualified, enthusiastic individual to serve as a Mathematics Teacher. The successful candidate will have excellent people skills, be self-motivated, have demonstrated ability to work well with students and adults. This position reports to the Assistant Head of School or Head of School. The teacher will teach one or more classes of Mathematics to students in grades 9-12 per semester and assist in other school programs and activities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Teaches courses in Mathematics to secondary students, utilizing a course of study adopted by the school.
- Participates in professional learning focused on improving instructional practice and delivering identified curriculum (i.e. AVID, AP course trainings, Kagan, SEL trainings, etc).
- Works closely with guidance, special education personnel and outside resources to assist students with special needs.
- Encourages students to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national and world problems.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to students.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Assesses the learning differences of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of appropriate staff as required.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Is available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.
Qualifications:
- Certified as a Secondary Mathematics Teacher by the State of Delaware
- Knowledge of Delaware Mathematics Standards, Assessment and Accountability
- Knowledge of best practices
- Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills
- Criminal background check
- Tuberculin testing and health verification
