Program Assistant, Special Education

Position Type: Classified, Non Exempt
Hours/FTE: 1.0 FTE, 8 hours/day
Salary: $19.83 - $28.25
Start Date: ASAP
Calendar: 189 days

POSITION PURPOSE:   The position provides secretarial, clerical, record keeping, and organizational support for the Special Education service area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Provide secretarial/clerical support to the program staff.
B. Provide support for program budget expenditures in accordance with ESD fiscal procedures.
C. Provide logistical support for program events and activities, including venue, meals, materials and registration.
D. Maintain a database of staff professional development participation for planning purposes.
E. Maintain student records.
F. Monitor Workers Compensation coverage for students who are working or volunteering as part of their planned programs.
G. Receive, process and distribute mail, supplies, equipment and instructional materials.
H. Maintain an inventory of materials or specialized equipment and distribute to classrooms upon request.
I. Provide backup/secondary support for department or agency functions as assigned or during peak work periods (front desk, specialized school program).
J. Provide note-taking support for meetings as assigned.
K. Update and maintain information on various social media platforms.
L. Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of general office experience or a combination of post high school education and experience are required. Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish preferred. Proficiency in the use of web-based communication tools and information sharing systems, spreadsheet, database, and word processing software to perform the duties of the position and knowledge of basic bookkeeping processes are essential. Knowledge of special education rules, procedures and requirements is preferred. Complete job learning time may take three to six months.

Lane ESD’s Special Education Service Area provides a wide range of services to districts in Lane County, including School Psychology, Speech Language Therapy and Augmentative Communication services, behavior consultation, and direct or related services for students with cognitive impairments, students with emotional/behavioral disorders, students with low-incidence disabilities, adjudicated at-risk youth, and young adults served at the State Hospital.
