2024-25 Hourly rate determined by CEA collective bargaining agreement.  
Hourly Rate: Grade E1FS Starting Rate $31.93-$32.57


POSITION DEFINITION:              
Under the general direction of the Director of Facility Services and the Operations Manager, works independently to maintain buildings, equipment and grounds for Community Unit School District 200 and is committed to customer satisfaction for all shareholders.  This position is responsible to be on call per rotation schedule for emergency service as assigned by the Director of Facility Services or assignee. A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a professional maintenance technician.  A High School diploma or equivalent is necessary.  Certification or classes in either HVAC maintenance, Electrician, Plumber or Carpenter are required and EPA certification is preferable for this District position.  A valid driver’s license (Not a CDL position) is obligatory as well as the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.  Expected hours of work will be 7 AM to 4 PM for first shift or 3 PM to 11:30 PM for second shift.  The regular full-time workweek shall be defined as consisting of not more than five (5) consecutive days per week during the period of Monday through Saturday.  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Facility Services or assignee in accordance with provisions of board policy.
 
KEY FUNTIONS:
 
Key Function A – Grounds
Authority/Responsibility – Activities involved include the preservation, development and care of all grounds, drives, walks and parking areas of Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence for these sites.
 
Representative Activities
1.Complete assigned lawn care tasks, mowing, weed removal, aerating, slit-seeding.
2.Playground Care - Checks conditions of playground equipment and repairs or replaces as needed.  Maintains safe ground covers in all play areas and does required repairs to continue safety.  Maintain playground fixtures to be in good working order.
3.Snow Removal - assist with snow removal. Operates a snowplow or snow blowing equipment to remove snow from roads, walks, and parking at all designated sites.  Shovels snow as needed.  Salts areas by hand or with salting equipment.
4.Mulch flower beds, paths, playgrounds, other as applicable.
5.Asphalt maintenance inspect / adjust / repair as well as line striping.
6.Assist in special events set-up and removal as well as special projects including Grounds Recovery work.
7.Cultivating, pruning and trimming of landscape trees and shrubs as well as appropriate fertilization as directed.
8.Understands and reads product manuals, use of all safety equipment, including guards and protective clothing as required to do grounds work.
9.Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, furniture, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the
availability of materials required at job site.
 
Key Function B – Grounds and Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
Authority/Responsibility – Maintain, repair and correctly use Community Unit School District 200 assigned equipment to sustain a safe and secure work area.
 
Representative Activities
1.Maintain and repair Facility Services Grounds and Vehicle equipment and machinery.
2.Ability to inspect and complete preventive maintenance tasks on district vehicles as well as the ability to change motor oil filter and motor oil on district vehicles.
3.Ability to operate all hand, power tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
4.Is able to work in a “team environment” supporting others to keep the site secure and safe.
5.Able to work with the various stakeholders in CUSD 200 as well as outside renters to properly service and support events that are scheduled to be held at Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations.
  
Key Function C – HVAC Maintenance
Authority/Responsibility – Seasonally maintain, diagnose and repair all aspects of Community Unit School District 200 building HVAC mechanical systems at designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence for these sites.
 
Representative Activities
1.Make basic calibrations of valves and controls for all HVAC equipment as well as the ability to operate building automation systems.
2.Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment.  Ability to learn new methods and systems.
3.Assist remodeling projects that include basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, installing vinyl cove base and electrical projects under the management of the Facility Services Management Team.
4.Ability to locate mechanical system main shut offs, gas, electric, water, sprinkler system.
5.Duties as assigned.  Work schedule will vary according to season and specific position assignment.
 
Key Function D – Knowledge and Physical Requirements
Authority/Responsibility – Knowledge and Physical Requirements are an essential part of this position.  Certain guidelines must be adhered to ensure comprehensive service in the school environment and continuous work safety at Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations.
 
Representative Activities

  1. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffold as well as climb and place scaffold systems on roofs.
  2. Must be able to bend and flex to inspect tunnels, cabinetry, boilers, excavations, cavities above ceilings, and other facility features.
  3. Must have sufficient physical strength to handle heavy materials. Lifting to 100 pounds is expected occasionally lifting of between 50 and 75 pounds occurring frequently without assistance.
  4. Must be able to properly use of all safety equipment, including guards, harnesses and protective clothing as required depending on the scope of the work required.
  5. Must be able to tolerate noise, smoke, fumes and heat may as they might happen at a typical job site.
  6. Ability to tolerate weather extremes of heat in summer, cold in winter, rain, and dusty conditions as is typical of the Midwest. 
  7. Ability to operate mechanized equipment 8 hours per day without other assignment.
  8. Must be able to read blue prints, manuals and other technical information as it relates to job needs.
  9. Ability to follow verbal instructions to complete projects in a timely fashion.
