Title:   Student Advisor/Coach

SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, is detail oriented, and is wholly committed to the success of Stanton Middle School and its students. The Student Advisor/Coach must be able to work both collaboratively and independently and should be able to demonstrate flexibility, creativity and accessibility. The Student Advisor/Coach will work as a resource for staff in all aspects of Special Education, providing coaching to staff as needed to improve the delivery of Special Education services. The Student Advisor/Coach will be considered part of the administrative team and as such should demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.

General Responsibilities:

  • Advise all students with a focus on Special Education students on academic and behavioral issues; identifies the options appropriate for each student and assists with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications; if needed, refers student for additional services.
  • Teach at least one Special Education class and maintain an IEP caseload. Manage student grades and assignments in assigned class. Plan and deliver effective and engaging lessons in collaboration with co-teacher.
  • Effectively progress monitor IEP goals for caseload.
  • Analyze student discipline, academic, behavior, etc. data and present for grade level meetings (ex: PLCs)
  • Collaborate with the Administrative team to collect, analyze and present data related to instruction and school climate using a lens of Special Education.
  • Works with the Tier I and Tier II/III MTSS leads to coordinate MTSS implementation and ensure continuity of services. 
  • Provide Special Education coaching to classroom teachers to support IEP implementation.
  • Provide coaching to classroom teachers to support Behavior Plan implementation.
  • Support in the development and execution of behavioral plans.
  • Manage his or her time well and be on time or early to all duties
  • Assist with hallway duty during all class changes
  • Assist and create extracurricular opportunities to support students in the areas of academics, personal management, organization, and/or study skills.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings such as Individual Education Programs, PST (or its equivalent), leadership meetings, or other as directed by the building administration.
  • Conduct parent/student conferences, suspension meetings, retention meetings, etc. as needed.
  • Implement and track data on bullying prevention strategies.
  • Foster collegial relationship with and among teachers and staff
  • Monitor academic progress of Special Education students; analyzes progress reports from instructors; determines eligibility for extra-curricular activities; identifies current and potential needs or problem areas and refers students to appropriate resources for assistance; communicates findings to coaches and administrators.
  • Monitors progress of high-risk students through parent/student/teacher consultations.
  • Promotes positive school, parent, and community relationships.
  • Responds to parent inquiries.
  • Collaborates with the Testing Coordinator and the Testing Administrator to plan and administer DESSA tests.
  • Provides coverage for extracurricular activities on both the Stanton Campus and other locations as determined by competition schedules.
  • Take direction from building administration.
  • Works closely with counseling staff for making referrals to community resources.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building administration.

QUALIFICATION
Prerequisites:
  • Applicants are strongly suggested to be currently enrolled in an administrative certification program, possess a School Leadership, or Special Education Leadership certification
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and publisher
  • Five years of classroom teaching recommended
  • Working knowledge of Eschool+
