Staff Needed: One (1) Special Education Teacher
     
Qualifications:
   

  • Hold a New Jersey instructional certificate in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 18A:27.1 et seq., and N.J.A.C. Title 6 Chapter 11 with appropriate Special Education endorsement(s) (N.J.A.C. 6:11-8.3) and other endorsements for the position held (N.J.A.C. 6:11-6.1, 6.2 or 8.1 et seq.).
  • Possess Certification of Teacher of the Handicapped.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the specialized certification area (Applied Behavior Analysis), including an understanding of the current rules and regulations regarding special education assessment and program requirements.
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, children with disabilities, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment diagnosis, and research related to learning and children with developmental disabilities.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Display high ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies.
  • Work cooperatively with program directors, supervisors, building administrators, school staff, and all teachers to develop and implement a comprehensive program utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and generating effective behavioral intervention strategies and plans.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the administration, instructional staff, students, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community.
  • Work collaboratively with the Child Study Team in developing appropriate individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and participate in IEP meetings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, video, audio presentation, telecommunications, Google Suite, etc.
  • Implement the educational program and comprehensive related services as outlined in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Provide an instructional program coordinated with the general education curriculum so that all students meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards as outlined in the student's IEP, modifying methods and materials as needed.
  • Maintain records indicating progress of the student in achieving the objectives of the IEP and assist with the evaluation and assessment of students.
  • Participate in the development and annual review of IEPs. Monitor the implementation of the IEPs, provide information about completed goals and objectives, communicating closely with members of the Child Study Team and with the Case Manager about the progress of the child.
  • Communicate regularly with the parents to nurture a supportive and cooperative relationship between home and school.
  • Submit lesson plans in the approved format to the Principal and Supervisor as required and requested.
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility; utilize positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques. Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school-approved procedures. Seek assistance from parents and the Principal when needed.
  • Assess and diagnose the learning, social, and emotional needs and styles of students using a variety of assessment techniques and data.
