TITLE: Assistant Head Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Good physical health
2. Positive attitude and able to work well with all District staff
3. Knowledge and skill to perform job responsibilities
4. Basic computer skills which include email, Google Drive, and Computerized
5. Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
6. Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
JOB GOAL: To provide students and staff with a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for learning
REPORTS TO: Director of Building & Grounds (collaborates with building administration)
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Closes the building each night, making sure that all doors and windows are secured and lights
turned off, and arms security alarm
2. Keeps all areas assigned on work schedule neat and clean at all times and reports all lights
needing repair
3. Substitutes for Head Custodian during his/her absence on dayshift
4. Repairs or reports any observed need for repairs or property damage to head custodian via
CMMS
5. Complies with all applicable regulations for the storage and disposal of wastes and the
collection of recycle materials
6. Adjusts work hours to assist Head Custodian during days when school is not in session or for
other special event days
7. Maintains a working knowledge of building alarm systems
8. Checks all assigned rooms to ensure all electrical appliances have been turned off
9. Opens and closes designated sections of building at the request of building principal
10. Reports any violation in contractual agreement for rental of school facilities to building
principal and/or Director of Building and Grounds.
11. Complies with all applicable regulations for storage of fuel and fuel containing equipment
12. Assists Head Custodian during special events with approval of building principal
13. Removes snow/ice as needed
14. Conserves supplies and promotes energy conservation
15. Cleans and maintains all tools and equipment after each use (i.e. Snow blower, salt spreader,
vacuums, floor machines, hand tools, water vacs, etc.)
16. Monitors that the sweeper (if applicable) gets his/her areas completed satisfactory on “school
in session” nights
17. Maintains a working knowledge of electrical panels, utility shut offs, and boiler controls
18. Remains in the building or on school premises during assigned work schedule unless given
specific permission to leave by building administrator
19. Ensures all classroom lights are working properly
20. Communicates absence to Head Custodian, Buildings and Grounds Assistant, and enters
absence into AESOP.
21. Complete required safety trainings.
22. Performs other tasks as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month year.
SALARY: In accordance with the Custodial Negotiation Agreement with the
South Berwyn Education Association
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions
of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
