Summary of position:
Teach students with autism spectrum disorders and/or those with characteristics representative of ASD. Responsible for planning and implementing an effective program of instruction based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Job Responsibilities (see attached description for additional details):
- Organize and implement curriculum and instruction for students with ASD in a variety of classroom settings.
- Instruct students at targeted developmental levels in academics, social areas, behavior, and self-help.
- Understand and implement all processes according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Chapter 14, as well as BCIU and school district policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Teacher Certification in Special Education and any General Education Certification.
- A minimum three years experience in working with students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) preferred.
- Knowledge and experience using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and explicit instruction, including Direct Instruction.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Full-time, 10 months/year
