Instructional Assistant Substitute
Starting at $14.00 per hour pending on licensure
 
JOB GOAL: 
Supervise students and give instructional assistance as directed to enhance the educational program of the district.
 
REPORTS TO:
Classroom Teacher and Building Principal
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes all responsibilities or, and duties assigned to, the absent instructional assistant.
  • Prepares classroom materials for instruction as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Adheres to appropriate check-in procedures with the front office.
  • Reviews with the principal or their designee plans and schedules to be followed during the instructional day.
  • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned as directed by the classroom teacher and building principal.
  • Supervises students as assigned.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, make-up work and remedial work developed by the classroom teacher.
  • Performs job-related tasks as assigned.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
  • Communicates with the classroom teacher regarding concerns or issues.
  • Reports to the building principal or their designee at the conclusion of the day to share issues or concerns, as well as check-out as needed.
  • Adheres to all procedures as delineated in the District 44 Substitute Handbook.

  • Ability to develop a quick rapport with students, building staff, and administration.
  • Ability to perform non-medical duties, such as hygiene, diapering, feeding with or without accommodations if needed (primarily at the Early Childhood Center).
  • Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Frequent walking.
  • Occasional lifting to 25 pounds or more (if moving classroom equipment, providing diapering/toileting services, etc.)
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Illinois Paraprofessional License, Illinois Professional Educator License, or Substitute Teaching License

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employed as established by the Board of Education.
 
EVALUATION:
Performance is evaluated regularly by the building principal.
