Qualifications:
Appropriate and current Professional Educators License 
Bilingual/ESL Endorsement Required
Training and/or experience with elementary students
Broad-based knowledge of curriculum, teaching methodologies and assessment, the State of Illinois Goals for Education and various media.
Spanish speaking required

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Special teaching assignments, curriculum and unit development, professional development support and student interventions
  • As assigned by the Principal and/or District Administrator to temporarily replace an absent Classroom Teacher.
  • Other teaching-based tasks, as assigned by the Principal and/or District Administrator.

Planning and Instructional:
  • Provide native language and English instruction in the program
  • To participate in professional development opportunities which provide information on effective instructional methods and materials that reflect best practices.
  • Designs instructional activities that are structured and appropriate to instructional goals and student needs.

Classroom Management:
  • Creates a classroom environment of respect and caring and has appropriate interactions with students.
  • Establishes a culture of learning by setting high expectations for student learning and conveys the importance of learning.
  • Demonstrates effective management of classroom procedures and through smooth transitions, the establishment of classroom procedures, and effective organization of group work.

Instructional Methods:
  • Communicates with students by giving clear directions and using appropriate language and vocabulary
  • Engages students in learning by planning lessons and activities that are appropriate to students.
 

  1. Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the district.
  2. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in either written, diagram or oral form. 
  3. Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  4. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. 
  5. May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
  6. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Work year:    Defined by teacher contract
