Description

We are looking for a Special Education teacher with a degree in the field. Specifically, we are hiring for a class of students mixed in grades 6-8 who are well below grade level and lower functioning. This is a life skills-based class. The profile of your average student in this class is testing around 1st to 3rd grade with marked developmental delays affecting life skills including but not limited to social interactions and minor self-care. Classes are primarily academic-based with a strong emphasis on social/emotional and life skills. We are not a behavioral program and therefore do not have students with severe behaviors. The class size ranges from 6-10 students with an assistant teacher in the room.

Florida State certification is preferred. We can help prospective teachers apply for Florida State certification.

Responsibilities Include:

- Implement an instructional program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required. - Collaborate with other members of staff and administrators to develop IEP - Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and materials that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students. - Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student. - Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants - Use technology in the teaching/learning process. - Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing. - Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the social and emotional development of students. - Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. - Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
