Description

Job Title:  Bilingual Diagnostician                                                                                             Duty Days/FLSA: 197/Exempt
Reports To: Director of Special Education                                                                             Pay Grade: Teachers
 
Job Goal:
Implement the special education assessment process. Assess the language, educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
 
Qualifications:  
Education/Certifications:
Master’s Degree
Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician Certificate
Bilingual in Spanish Required
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Bilingual assessment practices
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education students, human development and learning theories
Interpreting evaluation results
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
 
Experience:
Prior teaching experience preferred
Two years of diagnostic experience preferred
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process.
  2. Determine language dominance and proficiency, conduct assessments, interpret results and make educational recommendations.
  3. Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to Federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.
  4. Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student and cumulative folder, classroom teachers(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource people.
  5. Conduct classroom observation and personal interviews to collect data for assessment.
  6. Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to help interpret assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
  7. Comply with evaluation timelines as per federal law.
  8. Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in identification and understanding of students with disabilities.
  9. Interpret evaluation results to parents and stakeholders.
  10. Assist classroom teachers with implementation of IEP.
  11. Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students, and interpretation of assessment data.
  12. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals as needed to enhance their understanding of the FIE and the implications of the student’s disability.
  13. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  14. Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  15. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of assessment program and make changes based on the findings.
  16. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  17. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.             
  18. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  19. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  20. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  21. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
  22. Perform other duties related to Special Education as assigned.
 
 Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  1. Maintain emotional control under stress.
  2. Work with frequent interruptions.
  3. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
  4. Use of standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals.
  5. Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  6. Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  7. Occasional light to moderate lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  8. May work prolonged or irregular hours
  9. Districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
