Position: Data Technician
Technology Department
Hours: Monday-Friday / 8 hrs per day
260 days per school year
Salary: Range 29(Step C-$21.99 to Step G-$27.43)

Qualifications:
Preferred two years’ experience in data processing or computer support environment. (with increasing responsibilities)
Serve as support for District Database Programs.
Provide technical support and maintenance of the AERIES system including grades, attendance, testing, etc.
Assist in training
Operate and install a variety of computer hardware, software and peripherals.
Valid California Driver License
Keyboard at 45 words per minute
Must pass DOJ fingerprint clearance.
TB Clearance required prior to working

DATA TECHNICIAN I
Classified Employees Salary Schedule – Range 29
?
I. DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of technical data processing work, basic network support and to provide technical computer assistance to other District departments.
II. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education –
• Graduation from High School or its equivalent.
B. Experience –
• Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in a data processing or
computer support environment or any combination of experience and training that would
likely provide the required knowledge and ability.
C. Knowledge of –
• Data processing techniques; methods, terminology and equipment used in
a data processing operation.
• Basic principles of computer networks and operations.
D. Ability to -
• Handle confidential information efficiently and with complete security.
• Work independently under pressure and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Learn and comprehend methods of logical thinking.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with persons contacted in the
course of daily work.
• Make presentations to groups of people.
III. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid California driver’s license.
• Keyboard at 45 words per minutes.
IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Serve as day-to-day operational support of District Student Data Systems.
• Operate a variety of computer hardware, software and peripherals.
• Provide training and assistance to computer users with a varying level of expertise.
• Provide support for various administration programs and student data systems.
• Responsibilities include: gather, assemble, and check data input documents, assist
sites inputting student data such as grades, assessments, schedules, attendance, transfers and entering and exiting students.
• Assist in training District Student Data Systems users.
• Maintain technical expertise and competence by attending classes, conferences, seminars, and reading professional journals.
• Assist Data Technician II on projects as support and backup for various projects.
• Assist the Data Technician II with the backup and restoration, performance monitoring, and other projects as needed.
• Assist with user access rights and documentation of changes made on all Student System file servers.
• Support teachers, parents and students in accessing the student data system.
• Assist teachers with attendance and grading questions within the student data system.
• Prepare and input state reporting data.
• Prepare and analyze reports from student data (testing/benchmarks information, truancy letters, etc.).
• Be cognizant of all issues relating to student data security and confidentiality.
• Communicate with school sites to insure data integrity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: of this position are, but not limited
to the following:
• Stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ascend and descend steps.
• Read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
• Normal vision for the purpose of data entry.
• Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
• Communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.
• Bend, twist, kneel and/or stoop and reach in all directions.
• Lift and carry 25 pounds.
• Think clearly and rationally to solve problems.
VI. SUPERVISION:
Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Technology Services.
VII. EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Atascadero
Unified School District and the California Employee’s Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
