TEACHER, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL ACADEMIC LEARNING SPECIALIST / SPECIAL EDUCATION
(2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR)
 
QUALIFICATIONS:        
  1. Valid Special Education teaching credential –preliminary or clear required.
  2. Successful classroom teaching experience, 2 years or more of classroom
    instruction preferred; or,  4 years of experience working effectively with adolescent at-risk youth
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and to respect
    confidential matters
  4. Ability to complete ProAct Crisis Intervention Training within 90 days of employment and willingness
    to maintain certification and adhere to ProAct guidelines
 
REPORTS TO:           Principal, Special Education Program Manager or designee
 
JOB GOAL:                To effectively meet the academic, behavioral, emotional and intensive social skills
                                    needs for children receiving Special Education services in specially designed classrooms
                                    within the District at the SEAL Center.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  1. Provide academic instruction at grade level and intensive social skills instruction to
    students assigned to specialized programs within the District.
  2. Facilitates mainstreaming practices for students who have reached the appropriate
    behavioral level.
  3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to effective learning, behavior and
    social skills objectives.
  4. Ensures that the program-wide, Intensive Classroom Management system is implemented
    with fidelity.
  5. Ability and willingness to work with children with significant social emotional deficits and
    aggressive behaviors.
  6. Implements evidence based practices based on BCSD approved Intensive Classroom
    Management Programs. Including the use of Planned Teaching, Effective Praise, Corrective
    Teaching, De-escalation and Contingency Based Reinforcement.
  7. Facilitated the acquisition of social/emotional skills for identified students.  Ensure that
    social curriculum is taught daily based on district provided curriculum.
  8. Facilitates student goal setting and self-efficacy to develop motivation for learning.
  9. Participates in the school Professional Learning Communities as assigned by site administration.
    Develop lesson plans by grade level.
  10. Collect, log and graph behavior data on a daily basis
  11. Monitor, direct and provide schedules for Paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
  12. Develops and maintains a system of student data keeping related to the program.
  13. Communicates with parents through conferences, IEP’s, and other means to discuss the student’s
    academic and behavioral progress.
  14. Confers with students, parents, teachers and other staff as needed.
  15. Participates in District, county and state meetings and trainings as needed or directed by site administration.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned
 
SALARY:                     $64,399 - $128,149 annually  (185 Day)
                                    (max salary includes educational stipends)  
 
EVALUATION:              Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District’s “Improvement of Professional Services” handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
 
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license.  Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.  Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
