RPA is seeking to hire a full-time Student Support and Intervention Specialist for the 2024-25 school year.  This position could be at our middle school or high school campus.

If you’re answering a resounding “YES!” - please read on: The Student Support and Intervention Specialist will have a chance to work with students to ensure that they are receiving social emotional support in order to fully access their education. 

Support services include but are not limited to:

Services to Students:

  • Training students in de-escalation and distress tolerance skills. 

  • Training students in developing social skills including anger management, peer conflict and 

  • Providing social-emotional support to students experiencing distress. 

  • Conduct skill-based and social-emotional-based support groups for students. 

  • Provide crisis intervention.

  • Develop intervention strategies to increase academic success. 

  • Supporting developmentally appropriate interaction skills. 

  • Assisting the student in understanding and accepting self and others. 

School-Community Liaison

  • Coordinate internal resource allocation and distribution, as well as, referrals to outside agencies for long-term support including mental health agencies, medical agencies, and other resource-based organizations. 

  • Obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet students’ needs. 

Services to School Personnel

  • Providing staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting students' academics and/or behavior. 

  • Assessing students with mental health concerns

  • Developing staff training programs.

  • Assisting staff with behavior management.

  • Providing direct support to staff. 

Services to School System

  • Facilitate staff and student learning on the impact of relevant student support topics, including but not limited to, child abuse and reporting mandates, child development, suicide, safety, alcohol and drug abuse, human relationships, communication, and other mental health topics.

  • Assisting in developing school-wide and classroom based positive behavior intervention strategies. 

  • Participate and/or supervise school-based activities to create broad-based connections with students, staff, and families. 

  • Providing case management for students and families requiring multiple resources such as Section 504. 

  • Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect. 

  • Developing alternative programs for students with attendance concerns or involvement with the law. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Preferred Skills 

  • Ability to intervene and support students and families in crisis situations.

  • Ability to provide expertise and leadership for supporting the academic, social-emotional, physical, and behavioral development of all students

  • Current knowledge of the community resources and support systems available to assist students and their families. 

  • Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with students, parents, and other educational professionals regarding student concerns and problems. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

  • Ability to consult with school personnel in developing and implementing effective social and behavioral interventions for students.

 

Education:

Bachelor's or master's degree in the field of social work, school counseling, student behavior specialist, a 504 or IEP caseworker, or a background in student support services.
