Description

Holland Public Schools, located in Holland Michigan. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school and has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students.  We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8.  Holland Public Schools has a diverse student population with approximately 47% Latinx, 9% Black, 6% Mulitracial, 3 % Asian and 35% White and approximately 64% free and reduced lunch.

JOB TITLE:                      Teacher Consultant-Secondary

SALARY LEVEL:              Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications

REPORTS TO:                   Associate Superintendent of Student Services

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Michigan Teaching Certificate with a K-12 Special Education Endorsement
  2. Master's Degree in Education or field of study related to special education
  3. Possess a current endorsement in any area of special education or is eligible for endorsement according to R340.1749 in MARSE, K-12
  4. Show evidence of a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be teaching in a special education program.
  5. Extensive experience with special education evaluations, rules and regulations which should include:
    1. Knowledge of special education procedures, rules and regulations under IDEA, ADA, 504 and MARSE.
    2. Requirements and regulations related to Transition IEPs
    3. Collection and interpretation of academic and behavioral data
    4. Conducting structured observations, supporting the creation and implementation of behavior plans
    5. Knowledge and expertise with instructional strategies, specifically specially designed instruction
    6. Relational skills to support staff with the development, implementation and compliant evaluations, and individual plans.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  

  1. Support staff with federal, state and local special education compliance and procedures.
  2. Plan and implement in-service/professional development related to special education initiatives.
  3. LRE internal and external processes including reviewing or preparing documents, supporting staff to implement strategies and interventions and/or fidelity checks, present materials and interventions to staff, follow-up with teams to support implementation and fidelity
  4. Maintains confidentiality of all information for the purpose of protection of students, staff, parents, and district.
  5. Participates in professional development, meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  6. Attend IEP and related meetings, such as but not limited to behavior plans,  manifestations and evaluations.
  7. Assist with student placements in-district and transfer of placements for incoming students.
  8. Review and monitor suspensions.
  9. Assist teachers and support administration with Pattern of Removal discussions and decisions.
  10. Assist teachers and support administration with Change of Placement letters, FAPE letters, monitor FAPE and discuss with administrator or case manager  if an alternative placement is considered.
  11. Participate and/or lead internal and external audits including fidelity checks as needed or requested.
  12. Support District initiatives.
  13. Monitor teacher caseloads and prepare projections.
  14. Support continuum of PBIS/MTSS.
  15. Follow district expectations for FBA, PBSP, interventions, policy and procedures.
  16. Assist with creating procedures, when necessary.
  17. Communicate with Associate Superintendents of Student Services bi-weekly.
  18. Vet and oversee Young Adult Services (YAS) referrals/recommendations for post-secondary needs.
  19. Other duties as assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, read printed materials and a computer screen, and communicate in person or over the telephone.  Candidates must have a valid driver's license to travel between district buildings.
