ASL INSTRUCTOR - AS Needed
 
Location: Phoenix, Tucson or Remote
Employee Status: Temporary
Hours Per Week: As-Needed
Work Calendar: 12-month
Pay Rate: $22.9350/hour
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
 
Teaches American Sign Language to families and staff, with the goal of effective communication with students outside/inside of school. Language instruction includes culturally and contextually relevant concepts, fingerspelling, grammatical features/principles, and linguistic information related to deaf people and sign language.
 
Additionally, this position may provide instruction of deaf culture and history, and the role of sign language in deaf people's lives and education (in the US), allowing learners to become more familiar with various aspects of deaf peoples' experiences (i.e. cultural, educational, medical, linguistically, and politically) and how these experiences impact deaf individuals and groups.
 
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Linguistics, Deaf Studies;
  • and a minimum of 2 years’ experience of teaching and material development in ASL instruction with children or adults in paid positions in educational and/or community settings.
  • ASLPI 4 or higher, and/or SLPI rating Advanced or higher
  • ASLTA certification or ability to become certified within 2 years of hire.
