Nature and Scope of Job: Under the supervision of the  Principal, the Student Aide assists the student one on one in the classroom with all instructional materials and helps the student with needs outside of the classroom but related to achieving needed skills and requirements for succeeding in school.


  1. Assist the student one on one with all instructional and non-instructional tasks as assigned by the teacher.
  2. Assist the student one on one with the preparation of all materials and books.
  3. Assist the teacher in related clerical work.
  4. Operate and care for equipment for the student.
  5. Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
  6. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.
  7. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
  8. Display ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  9. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.


  1. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  2. Performs other duties not limited but including lunch duties, recess duties, and others within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.


  • Hold a high school diploma or GED or have sixty (60) college credits if position is funded by Title I Funds.
  • Some experience working in a school setting a plus.
  • Have ability to relate to and work with children that have learning and/or behavior challenges.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Current residency in New Jersey approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
  • Shared dedication to Philip’s Academy’s philosophy and mission.
  • Excellent teamwork, work ethic, and organizational skills.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and verbally. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Possess excellent integrity, a gentle spirit, and demonstrate strong moral character and initiative.
  • Demonstrate technological abilities: word processing, data management, and informational retrieval.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development.
  • Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or obtain certification upon hire.
  • Complete a Tuberculosis test and physical and provide a physician’s documentation of both.
  • Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry students up to 70lbs.
  • Have dependable transportation.

 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year and salary to be determined by the board.

Annual evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey State law and the provisions of the board’s policy on the evaluation of certified staff.
