Position Title: Henry County Online Academy (HCOA) Instructor
Division: Leadership Services
Reports To: Coordinator - Leadership Services, Instructional Systems
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Schedule: $100 per student per half credit per semester

Essential Duties:
 
  • Maintain successful contact with students and their families throughout the semester for reasons including but not limited to: failure to start a course, lack of activity in the course, and failing grades in the course.
  • Ensure all communication with students and families is logged inside of the Infinite Campus General Communication Log.
  • Maintain communication with the home school online facilitators throughout each semester to ensure they are aware of progress in their courses and to have them assist with facilitating successful communication with students taking these courses in their building.
  • Maintain accurate and updated grades in Infinite Campus throughout the semester and specifically at all grade posting deadlines.
  • Facilitate after school virtual office hours at least two days per week to meet with students to discuss course content, progress in course, etc.
  • Ensure all virtual office hour times have been communicated clearly with students and families. If it becomes necessary to adjust planned office hours, ensure students and families are made aware as soon as possible.
  • Instructors of EOC courses must ensure more frequent office hours are made available closer to EOC testing windows to allow for more time to review course material, test taking strategies, etc.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement instructional activities and strategies that contribute to a climate where students actively engage in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs, using data and findings from assessments, observations, and course statistics.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, families, program administrators, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, families, and schools.
  • Facilitate the online classroom in a manner that enhances the likelihood of student success through ongoing feedback to families and students; provides prompt responses to student and parent questions and concerns; and provides clear expectations.
  • Participate in presentations, instructor meetings, and professional development regarding online teaching and/or the HCOA program.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner; demonstrating respect for others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate HCOA administrator.
 
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator Certificate at the T-4 level or higher, or meet the district's professional qualifications.
  • Minimum of three years of successful educational experience working in a school environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards, curriculum, and instruction.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite, as required.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
