Technology Department

Hours: Monday-Friday / 8 hrs per day
260 days per school year

Range 2 (Step A-$30.73 to Step E-$35.29)

Qualifications:   

  • Associates of Arts Degree in Information Technology preferred

  • Concentration in Reporting and Security of the Districts Student Information System.

  • Manage and operate the Districts Student Information Systems.

  • Plan, organize and direct activities and operations to assure proper operation and  maintenance of District systems

  • Work collaboratively on the integration of the Student Information System and various other programs.   

  • Ability to pass DOJ Background/Fingerprint Clearance.

  • Hold a Valid California Driver License.

Job Description 

TECHNOLOGY COORDINATOR 

Confidential/Supervisory Salary Schedule – Range 2 

I. DEFINITION: Designing, implementing, managing and maintaining the district wide network   software and hardware. Provide administration, operation and systems management of District student information systems and online programs. Oversee day to day duties of the Technicians. 

Under the general direction of the Director of Technology Services, install and maintain equipment and  software related to the networking infrastructure of the district; assist in decision making equipment and  purchase and building and room design; assist in developing direct wide technology strategies and plans;  oversee the maintenance and function of local area networks (LANs) and the district wide area network  (WAN); assist in orienting and training district personnel in proper use of telephone/communications,  computer, and audio visual media equipment of the district; and is a member of technology committees and groups. Work in conjunction with the Director of Technology Services in designing, implementing, managing and maintaining the District wide network software and hardware. Oversee/Manage the day-to-day work orders/ projects of the Computer and Network Technicians. Assist in issues that arise with their work orders. Oversee the completion of the tasks in a timely manner. 

 

Under the general supervision of the Director of Technology Services, provide administration, operation, and systems management of the district’s student information system, online programs and all programs that receive data from the SIS.  Manage and operate the district’s student information system including troubleshooting, communicating updates, implementing new modules, and managing the annual cycle of the Student Information System. Work cooperatively with the Educational Services Department and the schools to integrate, configure, and configure roster technology-based curriculum.  Accurately prepare, audit, and file government reports such as CALPADS and the Office of Civil Rights.  Train staff in the district in the proper use of the Student Information system. Work collaboratively with the other Technology Coordinator to integrate and configure integrations between the Student Information System and core IT infrastructure, such as integrations with Active Directory and Google Suite for Education.  Manage Google Suite new changes, communicate new functionality.  Work with the Business Office to prepare and ensure accurate attendance accounting. Work with Human Resources to ensure accurate staff data in the Student Information System. Work with the Director of Technology and the District Administrators on upcoming regulatory changes, changes in government filings or other external factors that affect the operation or procedures for the Student Information system. 

 

Assist in the work direction of the technicians. Report/Communicate with the Director of Technology any issues with the work or the Technicians. Assist in the writing of the Technicians yearly review. Perform other related work as required or assigned. 


II. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

A. Education: 

  • Graduation from High School or its equivalent 

  • Associate of Arts Degree in Information Technology preferred 

  • Any combination of experience, training and/or education to demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and abilities listed. 


B. Experience/Training: 

  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. 

  • Evidence of years of increasing responsibility in technology relating to networking, experience in a technical computer/network environment. 

  • Evidence of years of increasing responsibility in technology relating to Systems management and integration.

  • Equivalent to the completion of four years of college study in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field. 

C. Knowledge of: 

  • Principles, methods, and techniques of systems analysis and design. 

  • Basic principles and practices of computer operations. 

  • Principles and operations of LANs, WANs, data communication systems, and related Software. 

  • Network protocols and operating systems. 

  • Configuration documentation techniques. 

  • Computer operating systems and standard application programs on a variety of computers and other devices. 

  • Computer and peripheral equipment operational characteristics and maintenance methods and procedures. 

  • Current organization's formal and informal structure, internal and external politics, culture, and climates.

  • Complete day-to-day individual work tasks and goals to execute assigned basic, routine projects and/or project tasks, with well-defined specifications for task scope and completion timelines; generally all projects tasks are completed independently, but periodically tasks  may be interdependent with those of a small work group/team members; project life cycle  may span up to 6 months. 

  • Hold informal and/or formal accountability for project results on multiple projects with a high degree of technical complexity and/or potentially long-lasting impact on the unit/department operation, developing and delivering project solutions/outcomes. Hold in depth knowledge of the unit/department strategies and priorities for the purpose of contributing to the project definition, and assisting in the development of project schedules, preliminary budgets, and quality control policies and procedures. 

  • Form, maintain, and foster relationships with organizational members in and out of one’s working unit for the purpose of carrying out work activities.

III. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Driver License  

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to attain appropriate licensing certificates. 

IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION: duties include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Plan, install, configure, maintain and update network and application software including operating systems, security, utilities and file management. 

  • Server as network administrator responsible for documentation, back-up and restoration, security, virus protection, performance monitoring, and user provision and rights. 

  • Plan, install, configure, test, maintain, and troubleshoot network hardware, including cabling, servers, workstations and peripherals, interface cards, switches, back-up units, in-line air conditioning units, and routers. 

  • Support, maintain and troubleshoot all District network servers. Systems may include central computer hardware and peripheral equipment, computers, software, online resources, networks, and related components. 

  • Coordinate, schedule and ensure completion of all required projects. 

  • Maintain technical expertise and competence by attending live and online classes, seminars, meetings, and conferences, and reading professional journals and technical manuals. 

  • Cross-train department staff. 

  • Collaborate with other technicians and technology staff at local districts, County Office of Education, state events and local colleges. 

  • Assist with planning and analyzing computer and network software and hardware needs; make recommendations for acquisition, improvements, and enhancements based on new developments in the industry. 

  • Coordinate and manage network system backups. 

  • Maintain documentation, records, and logs related to installation configurations, inventory, cabling and equipment maintenance. 

  • Maintain and execute network equipment service contracts.

  • Operate a variety of network operating systems and management software. 

  • Monitor and maintain system security, act as the chief data security officer on the AUSD networks. 

 

IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION (cont.):

  • Recommend and implement changes to accomplish increased system productivity and efficiency. 

  • Advise and assist Technicians in the diagnosis and correction of complex software and hardware problems. 

  • Manage the utilization of system resources such as disk space, processor time and processor and communications priorities. 

  • Provides technical support regarding network operations, problems, and/or malfunctions Analyzes symptoms of network user problems/malfunctions and determines appropriate action in a timely manner. Explains operational and installation procedures and problem/malfunction sources to users. 

  • Manage the day-to-day workload of the technicians. 

  • Manage and operate the district’s student information system, including patching, updating, troubleshooting, debugging, backing up and general maintenance. 

  • Prepare analytical and assessment reports of student and staff data to site staff, Educational Services and the District office.

  • Oversee, audit, prepare, and file state and federal reports such as CALPADS, the Office of Civil Rights and any new requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with Educational Services and the schools to integrate, roster, and configure applications. Assist in importing and exporting data as required.

  • Work collaboratively with the other Technology coordinator to integrate and configure integrations between the student information system and core IT infrastructure, such as integrations with Active Directory and Google Suite for Education.

  • Work collaboratively with the schools and the business office to ensure accurate attendance accounting.

  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources to ensure accurate staff data in the student information system.

  • Work collaboratively with all departments to help guide implementations of new modules and new technologies affecting the student information system.

  • Manage the annual cycle of the student information system.

  • Maintain the confidential information including pupil data, staff data, or any other data accessible through the IT systems.

  • Create and deliver training to district and school site staff.  Write manuals and tutorials.

  • Assist the Director of Technology in the writing and presentation of the technician’s yearly reviews. 

  • Ability to communicate, orally and written, issues that arise with the technician's work and other problems. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: of this position are, but not limited to the following: 

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time, as well as ascend and descend steps. ? Read and write at the level required for successful job performance. 

  • See for the purpose of reading student work, laws and codes, rules and policies, and other related matter and observing students. 

  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels.

  • An employee in this Classification may be required to work flexible hours and may be on-call after regular work hours.
