The Redmond Proficiency Academy (RPA) is a public charter school operating in the Redmond School District. Preparing for its fifteenth year of operations, RPA serves over 900 students in grades 6-12. Students come to RPA from throughout Central Oregon. RPA is seeking to hire a full-time middle school science teacher for the 2024-25 school year. The position is open until filled.
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Middle School Director, the Science teacher develops students' conceptual learning of scientific phenomena. They create engaging lessons, explain complex concepts simply, and enrich classroom time by using experiments. Science teachers encourage students to be curious and to have respect for the natural world. This teacher collaborates with other core content teachers to build cross-disciplinary opportunities for student learning. These skills are developed through activities that challenge students and inspire them to explore. RPA teachers are facilitators of student-centered learning. They accomplish this by engaging learners in authentic scholarship that connects them through fun and engaging real-world situations. Teachers are encouraged to immerse students in collaborative learning experiences, critical thinking skills, and evidence-based explanations.
Essential Functions
- Teaches knowledge and skills in middle school foundational science.
- Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to personalized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
- Teaches two enrichment classes weekly that help students explore areas of interest and passion.
Knowledge and Preferred Skills
-Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
-Knowledge of a wide range of integrated science areas, including physical science, life science, earth and space science.

Certification/License:
- Current Oregon licensure (or ability to obtain licensure or official charter school registry license) to teach foundational science or other science subject areas.
