Description

About the Dual Immersion Program ALA is proud to offer a Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program. Our goal is to foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence. In this role, you will be the Spanish-speaking partner in a 50/50 model, where students spend half their day learning in English and the other half immersed in Spanish, focusing on academic rigor and advanced language proficiency. The Role We are seeking a fluent Spanish speaker who is passionate about upper elementary education and advanced language acquisition. As a 5th Grade DLI Teacher, you will guide students as they transition toward middle school, teaching core subjects—including Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science—entirely in Spanish. You will use specialized instructional strategies to ensure students master complex academic concepts while refining their Spanish fluency.

Key Responsibilities Target Language Immersion: Provide 100% of instruction in Spanish, utilizing advanced vocabulary and complex sentence structures to challenge students' linguistic development. Advanced Literacy: Teach complex Spanish literacy skills, including literary analysis, argumentative writing, and academic vocabulary. Subject Matter Expertise: Deliver high-quality instruction in 5th-grade Mathematics and Science standards entirely in Spanish. Partner Collaboration: Work in close tandem with your English-speaking partner teacher to coordinate curriculum, bridge academic concepts between languages, and monitor student progress. Cultural Enrichment: Integrate deep dives into Hispanic history, global issues, and traditions into the curriculum to broaden students' global perspectives. Classroom Management: Maintain a professional, high-energy, and structured environment suitable for pre-teens, emphasizing the "RISE UP" values (Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, Unity, Patriotism). Family Engagement: Provide resources and regular updates to parents to support their child's continued language journey and academic success in the upper grades.

Why Join the ALA DLI Team? Collaborative Support: Work with a dedicated partner teacher to share the workload of student grading, parent communication, and classroom management.
