Position: SCHOOL COUNSELOR
 
Qualifications:
 

1. Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling
2. Valid Teaching Certificate

 
Responsible to: Building Principal
 
Length of Service:      9 Months
Salary Range: Subject to Certified Salary Schedule.

Major Responsibility 1: Responsive Services
Key Duties:

1. Individual counseling
2. Small group counseling
3. Crisis response services

     
Major Responsibility 2: Indirect Services
Key Duties:

1. Make referrals to outside services
2. Consult with parent, teachers, and administrators to share effective strategies that support students
3. Collaborate with parents, professionals, and community member to support student success

Major Responsibility 3: Individual Student Planning/Development
Key Duties:

1. Help students develop coping skills and strategies at school
2. Help students develop personal goals and plans
3. Assist teachers and administration using restorative practices and approaches when needed

 
Major Responsibility 4: Curriculum
Key Duties:

1. Deliver required lessons/presentations as determined by the State of Illinois
2. Collaborate with SEL teacher to evaluate, develop, and deliver lessons based on student social and emotional needs

 Major Responsibility 5: General Responsibilities
Key Duties:

1. Maintain accurate records
2. Exercise professional discretion in keeping personal information of students as confidential as possible under state law
3. Maintain an open-door policy for all students, parents, teachers, and administrators
4. Attend professional meetings for student referrals or parent conferences if needed
5. Be a collaborative team member, share in the responsibilities of supervision, planning, and professional growth and development.
6. All other duties as assigned
