Behavioral Instructional Coach Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Behavior Instructional Coach will be responsible for carrying out the responsibilities of supporting teachers and paraprofessionals with the instructional and behavioral programming needs of students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification/Experience Requirements:
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with Special Education Certification
- Minimum two years' experience as a classroom teacher. Direct experience working with students with significant behavioral needs is an acceptable substitute for 1 year. Direct experience working with students with IEPs in a variety of self contained special education settings is an acceptable substitute for 1 year.
- Valid driver's license with driving record that meets District requirements
- Crisis Prevention institute (CPI) Non-violent Crisis Intervention Trainer preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Develop a comprehensive program of behavioral, social and academic support for students who exhibit challenging behaviors.
Knowledge of the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process
Knowledge of behavior and social skills intervention techniques and methodology
Knowledge of research-based interventions for working with students with emotional disabilities
Knowledge of research-based interventions for working with students with autism spectrum disorders?
Knowledge of research based interventions for working with students who have Adverse Childhood Experiences.
Ability to organize and interpret data to make recommendations for support of students and classrooms
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Collaborate with teachers to design and develop individualized behavioral support plans and provide support to instructional staff in implementing BIPs and classroom management strategies.
- Conduct behavior consults based on student data and observation of students. Work with school staff and parents in teaching socially acceptable behavior to students based on individual needs.
- Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assist in supporting structured classroom settings, student behavior plans, specific intervention plans for students and assist in their implementation, including designing and making materials/behavioral charts, etc.
- Conduct ongoing follow up assessment/observations of progress on behavior support plans and services for specific students
- Collaborate with educators to develop effective programming for students with communication concerns
- Participate in student specific meetings/staffings and ARD and Section 504 meetings as needed.
Student Management:
Model crisis prevention and proactive intervention strategies for teachers/assistants and general education teachers, if appropriate
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to assist in effective programming to meet individual student needs
Organization Improvement:
Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs
Keep abreast of new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending seminars and relevant training opportunities and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
Follow district and department policies and procedures
Other Responsibilities:
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to the State Board of Education and local Board policy
Perform all other duties as assigned
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
Moderate lifting and carrying and exposure to biological hazards
Occasional need to manage student behavior through physical restraint
Occasional prolonged or irregular hours
