QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Valid Arizona Department of Education  School Counselor, PreK-12 certificate.
  2. Degree required in relevant field of study.
  3. Prior relevant work experience.
  4. Have knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. 
  2. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  3. Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  4. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  5. Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  6. Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  7. Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level. 
  8. Ability to operate computer equipment for email communications, word processing, data management, and other assigned tasks as related to the position.
  9. Ability to understand and maintain students’ and parents’ rights to confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with such individual students.
  10. Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality.
  11. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Implement the district adopted Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Curriculum (CCBG).
  2. Provide classroom and small group developmental activities.  (e.g., self-esteem, problem-solving, decision making)
  3. Coordinate and facilitate the Child Study Team and the Multi Disciplinary Conference Team (MDC).
  4. Facilitate the introduction of students to the school community.
  5. Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
  6. Provide counseling for children on an individual basis to remediate behavioral, academic, and personal student concerns.
  7. Help to maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
  8. Promote parents’ understanding of academic progress, behavior, growth, and development issues.
  9. Help resolve student-teacher conflicts.
  10. Provide in-service training as needed.
  11. Consult about class interaction, student needs, and staff relationships.
  12. Aid in the interpretation of test results to students, parents and teachers.
  13. Take an active role in interpreting the school’s objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
  14. Work closely with the school nurse in reporting cases of suspected child abuse.
  15. Facilitate special interest programs as needed, such as parenting groups and/or support groups.
  16. Other duties as may be assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Exceptional Student Services.
 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend as necessary. The employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 10 pounds and could occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. The employee will read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone.    

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Indoor school building and classroom environment and ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with students, staff and the public.
Indoor office environment. This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have substantial contact with parents, students, staff, and the public.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The School Counselor reports to the site administrator. The School Counselor will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.

            VIEW COUNSELOR INITIAL WAGE PLACEMENT PLAN
            SUPPLEMENTAL:  Classroom Site Fund - $10,000 annual or prorated based on start date!
