Description

The three core goals of dual language education are:

1) bilingualism and biliteracy,

2) academic proficiency in both program languages

3) socio-cultural competency

These goals are the driving force behind dual language instructional strategies and standards-based curriculum at D65.

District 65 is following a 50/50 model between Spanish and English for the language allocation.  Math, Science and SLA will be in Spanish and Social Studies, PE, Specials and ELA in English. The first year of the program (SY 24/25) will be for 6th grade and each year another grade level will be added up to the 8th grade.

District 65 is looking for bilingual educators who are interested in teaching positions in a Dual Language Middle School program that follows these goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in job-related area

  • Illinois Professional Educator License

  • Spanish Bilingual endorsement

  • 5-8 grade or 6-8 grade Science endorsement and 5-8 grade or 6-8 grade Science endorsement (preferred)

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement (preferred)

District 65 encourages qualified applicants who may still be working on endorsements to apply.

For example, an educator who speaks Spanish but is not currently endorsed, there is a temporary 5-year license for educators working towards that endorsement.  Here is information on the ISBE website for a Transitional Bilingual Endorsement.

Additionally, an applicant has a Science endorsement but not a Math endorsement, they still may be able to teach Math if they possess college coursework credits in Math.  Here is information from ISBE on middle school content area endorsements.
