Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  2. Ability to read and follow vehicle manuals.
  3. Certification from an accredited mechanic training program is preferred.
  4. Three (3) years of experience as a mechanic with gasoline and diesel engines.
  5. Must obtain a CDL Class A or B license and Bus Driver Certificate.
  6. Must have a good driving record.
  7. Must have knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines.
  8. Must have own tools.
  9. Prefer some Supervisory experience.
  10. Successful 90 days Probationary period, contracted thereafter.
  11. Ability to satisfactorily pass a background check, including positive references from previous immediate supervisors.
  12. A valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint card. 

SUPERVISED BY: Transportation Supervisor/Lead Mechanic

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) months per year.        

SALARY: Salary to be determined by district pay scale and Board.

POSITION GOAL: To maintain the district school buses and vehicles in a condition of operating excellence for the safety of operators and passengers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Listens, follows directions, and completes the job assigned.
  2. Must take care of all school equipment.
  3. Perform heavy and general mechanic work.
  4. Assist in driving school buses as assigned.
  5. Assists in helping Co-workers.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned for the benefit of the district.
  7. Repair and replace defective or worn parts.
  8. Keeps daily log and maintains records on all district equipment and repairs.
  9. Must be able to diagnose and repair all major and minor equipment defects.
  10. Make recommendations on all aspects of maintenance procedures, parts, and equipment purchases.
  11. Establish and maintain good rapport with all district personnel and staff.
  12. Must be capable of obtaining Arizona Bus Driver Certificate.
  13. Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
  14. Exercise appropriate judgment with:
    • Material(s) that is going to be used
    • Time factors on projects
    • Personnel needed to complete the work
  15. Make’s appropriate recommendations for the improvement of the Transportation Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must be physically capable of performing the assignedresponsibilities.
  2. Must be capable of obtaining Arizona Bus Certificate Certification.
  3. Must be capable of obtaining a (CDL) Commercial Driver License.
