Salary: $31,333-$47,408 (Commensurate with Experience)

Qualifications
- Certificate of health signed by a licensed physician indicating physical ability to perform custodial tasks.
- Demonstrated skills to perform assigned responsibilities.
- Education/training in mechanical systems preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities
- Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times; keeps grounds free of litter, leaves, and other debris.
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and custodial presence is required by the principal.
- Clean classrooms daily including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting and washing.
- Clean corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it; strip, wax, polish floors using mechanical equipment.
- Wash and disinfect toilets, floors, sinks and drinking fountains daily.
- Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
- Clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Replace light bulbs, tubes, starters, towels, soap and other supplies; unload and deliver supplies.
- Perform duties such as grass cutting, tree trimming, and shrub pruning in order to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition; scrape and sand walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as weather requires.
- Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Make minor building repairs and submit forms for more extensive repairs by division maintenance staff.
- Paint rooms and equipment; wash and repair furniture, lockers and other equipment.
- Raise and lower the United States flag each day at the designated times of the school.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and wastes.
- Take part in training on the use of equipment, cleaning procedures, and blood borne pathogens.
- Report supply needs, areas in need of repair, and other problems promptly to the supervisor or building administrator.
- Any additional duties as assigned by the building principal.
Head Custodial Duties:
- Regularly communicates with and works with the building administrator to address major and minor repair items, and other building and grounds concerns.
- Report immediately to the principal any damage or vandalism to school property.
- Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment. Requisition replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered before they are needed.
- Organize an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of the building and grounds. Maintains a systematic schedule of activities.
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity in cooperation with the supervisor of maintenance.
- Conduct periodic inspections and assist custodians in improving their performance.
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrates ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces above and below ground.
- Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to operate equipment.
- See and read printed material with or without vision aids.
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical agility to lift 50 pounds; and the ability to bend, stoop and reach overhead.

Terms of Employment
Contract Length – Twelve Months
FLSA Status – Non-Exempt
Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Classified Salary Scale (School Custodian/Head /Div. Custodian).
Evaluation
Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Northampton County Public Schools supervision procedures.
