Description
Starting Salary: $50,000
Primary Purpose:
Manage and maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, and data center infrastructure.
Qualifications:Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or management information systems, or equivalent experience in network administration preferred
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert certification (MCSE) Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge ofLAN, WLAN, and WAN network design and installation
Knowledge of network hardware and software applications including network servers, printers, and other equipment
Ability to work with multiple operating systems and network protocols
Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least four years experience in networking, preferably in a school environment preferred
At least two years experience with server/systems administration preferred
Experience with VMWare, SAN management, and cloud virtualization preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Planning
Plan, coordinate, and communicate changes to the district technology systems infrastructure.
Recommend, schedule, and perform system improvements, upgrades, and repairs based on data collected from monitoring and examination.
Coordinate technology infrastructure design and capacity planning.
Conduct research on technology products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
Implementation
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors.
Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and plans for server administration, backup, and disaster recovery.
Respond to the needs and questions of district users concerning access to and capabilities of district maintained systems
Oversee the creation and maintenance for district documentation on currently deployed systems.
Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Monitoring
Monitor and test server performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
Manage and monitor servers, including e-mail, print, file, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
Monitor security solutions including firewall, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems.
Monitor telephony systems and equipment.
Monitor network systems and equipment where applicable.
Monitor system capacity to determine its effect on performance and recommend enhancements to meet new or changing network demands.
