PARK COUNTY RE2 SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for a Special Education Teacher for our High School.

DESCRIPTION Under the general direction of the building principal, is the person directly responsible for the students assigned to his/her case list. The teacher is responsible for determining each child’s needs and coordinates the necessary special education, supportive service, and regular education services to meet each child’s needs. The teacher creates an effective, flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability.

Our campus is home to Edith Teter Preschool, Edith Teter Elementary, and South Park Middle and High Schools. We are the home of the Miners (for the elementary school) and the Burros (for middle and high schools)! Students attend our schools from the surrounding towns of Alma, Jefferson, Como, Hartsel, Guffey, Lake George, and of course, Fairplay. Our students and staff enjoy a 4-day school week, Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am -4:30 pm.

GENERAL DUTIES • Develops an IEP stating each child’s present level of functioning, objectives to meet each child’s needs, methods/materials used to meet those objectives, and procedures and schedules for determining when objectives are met. • Appraises academic, behavioral, and perceptional functioning of an individual student. • Recommends to support staff, classroom teacher, parents, and district personnel appropriate diagnostic/instructional services for individuals having learning handicaps. • Provides consultative, resource, and supervisory services in program and curriculum planning, research, and program evaluation for special projects involving learning handicaps within the school and at the district level. • Plans with teachers and other staff the implementation of instructional strategies to meet the needs of an individual with a learning handicap. • Assists in the referral of an individual with exceptional needs to available community agencies when their needs cannot be met by the services provided by the district. • Consults with parents (or guardians) and members of related disciplines, including outside agencies regarding the needs of an individual with a learning handicap. • Develops specialized in-service programs as necessary for school and community personnel. • Develops parent education programs and individual or group counseling to assist parents in the prevention, understanding, and remediation of learning handicaps when appropriate. • Organizes the classroom to be attractive and motivational for students’ learning. • Creates learning materials geared to each student’s ability and interest. • Completes all required records, keeping each student’s IEP updated as required. • Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity. • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students. • Establishes and maintains effective student/classroom management required to achieve a quality educational environment. • Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records. • Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet or exceed District policies, goals, and objectives, as well as State standards. • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with parents through a variety of methods. • Holds parent/teacher conferences to discuss the individual student's progress, educational plan, and other necessary and relevant information. • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students to address health, behavior, and learning problems. • Creates an attractive, functional, and effective environment for learning. • Maintains and demonstrates professional competence through successful involvement in the District personal professional growth program, as well as other approved education activities provided by the District and/or other resources. • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to facilitate the District-approved evaluation process. • Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional materials; maintains inventory records. • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities • Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities. • Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self; supports and participates in District and site professional growth programs. • Demonstrates a positive attitude toward the job and remains a flexible and innovative team member. • Has knowledge of applicable policies and laws relating to minors. • Maintains cooperative working relationships with District and site administrators. • Collects and organizes necessary information about each student from a variety of sources (academic records, parental conferences, personal data forms, standardized and non-standardized tests, and other materials for referral purposes). • As a member of the professional staff assists in interpreting to the community the schools’ educational program. • Performs such other duties as may be required or directed.

COMPENSATION Salary commensurate with education and experience and includes individual medical, dental, life insurance, and retirement benefits through PERA. Work Year: 153 days for teaching staff. Follows PCSD Calendar (Monday - Thursday). Expected hours: 7:30-4:30 daily
