Prospect Heights School District 23 has openings for elementary and middle school substitute teachers and teaching assistants for the 2024-2025 school year.  Substitutes work on an as-needed basis throughout the school year and are paid at a rate of $135 per day or $67.50 per half-day.  No other benefits available (benefits information available here).  Times vary depending on the school and range from 7:50 am to 3:20 pm. 

Qualifications:
Must have a valid Illinois Sub License (SUB), Professional Educator License (PEL), or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a Bachelor's Degree on file with the Illinois State Board of Education.

Requirements for Obtaining your Substitute Teaching License:

You must meet one of the following options:

Option 1:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Submit a substitute teaching application in ELIS

Option 2:

  • Actively enrolled in an approved educator preparation program through a regionally accredited institution in Illinois
  • Have recently completed (within the last semester) at least 90 semester hours of coursework as a part of the approved Illinois educator preparation program
  • Transfer coursework may be used towards the 90 semester hours if accepted by the Illinois educator preparation program
  • Have a Professional Educator License in pre-completion status on your ELIS account
  • Follow the process at:  https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Educator-Licensure-Application.aspx to submit a substitute teaching application in ELIS

Application Procedure for District 23:
Must complete the online application and upload the following items:
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Current Resume
Faith's Law: Effective July 1, 2023, districts are required to conduct an Employee History Review (EHR) of prior employers to determine if they have been the subject of a sexual misconduct allegation, been discharged, been asked to resign, or were disciplined due to an adjudication or finding of sexual misconduct. Applicants who are offered a position will be required to affirm that they are not disqualified from employment for these reasons and to authorize this review.
