Description:
The internship program will provide students with real, marketable skills and an understanding of what possible careers are available to them. Each student’s internship will build upon their post high school plans, helping them to develop self independence, and professional skills. The Internship/Capstone Coordinator will be responsible for establishing and cultivating partnerships, mentoring and supporting students, and building and managing a strong and sustainable program. The Internship/Capstone Coordinator will provide students with mentoring and training throughout their internship, ensuring that students receive support to understand the intricacies of a professional work setting. This job description is meant to provide an outline for the many and varied responsibilities of the position. There may be additional responsibilities as the program develops and needs arise.
Responsibilities (Job functions):
Administer the program and provide necessary forms plus maintain state adequate records.
Monitor, support, coach and counsel students on job readiness skills.
Create internship positions and capstone opportunities within the business community.
Help with placement of students in internships and capstones aligned with their post-secondary plans.
Make periodic contacts with the business to discuss student-learner progress.
Supervise and evaluate students involved in internships.
Assist high school counselor in administering and interpreting interest inventories.
Conduct site visits to observe internship sites while students are working
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
Minimum licensed high school teacher
Knowledge of Career & Technical Education Programs
Outgoing personality and excellent social skills
Ability to take initiative and be a “self-starter”
Effective oral and written communication skills
Experience and familiarity with local business community
Skilled at meeting new people and creating a network within the business community
Experience in collaboration with people
Strong interpersonal and student management skills and experience working with students
Able to discuss career interests and career choices with students
Understanding of the current local job market
Excellent computer and file management skills
