Description
A Student Advocate is responsible for helping students develop positive patterns of engagement at school, fuel motivation, and foster development of the life skillls needed for graduation and post high school learning and careers.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- Organization and case management skills
- Ability to work independently in a variety of different settings
- Willingness to persist with students, despite their behavior and decision-making
- Advocacy skills, including the ability to negotiate, compromise, and confront conflict
- Ability to cooperate and communicate effectively with students, families, and school personnel
- Ability to cooperate with families and school staff
- Respond to crisis
- Case management of 32-40 at-risk students
- Works as a liaison between family and school to create and implement a plan for students academic and social success
- Works collaboratively with schools and programs to define and outline the role of school staff in improving student participation, performance, and success for individual students placed at high risk for leaving school
- Schedules family outreach visits
- Arranges travel for students to and from school if necessary
- Attends weekly staff meetings
- Monitors attendance, behavior, and grades
- Responds and intervenes in students crisis
- Sets goals with students
