Physical Education Assistant Teacher
Latin School of Chicago is seeking candidates for the Assistant Physical Education Teacher position for grades JK-4 beginning in late August. The Latin School Assistant Teacher program goals are to provide the assistant teacher with an authentic teaching and learning experience under the supervision of a lead teacher. Candidates should be interested in pursuing a career in a physical education, fitness, or health related educational setting. A bachelor’s degree in physical education is required. The role of the assistant teacher can vary depending on the needs of the physical education program and the experience of the assistant teacher. The role of the assistant teacher as a support to the physical education lead teachers and the students include (but are not limited to):
- Planning units and lessons
Preparing materials
Researching best practices
Organizing student work
Assessing and evaluating student work
Assisting with technology and updating the physical education website
Implementing an evolving curriculum in physical fitness, movement, and health
Organize and maintain inventory of equipment
The starting salary for this full-time position is $20,000, but additional stipends are possible for other work within the school. A stipend for graduate work is included in the benefits package. Contracts for assistant teachers are distributed on a yearly basis but may be renewed up to three years total in this position.
