Middle School Learning Specialist
Description
Chicago Jewish Day School (CJDS) has an opening for a middle school full-time learning specialist (Special Education) Teacher for the 2017-
18 school year. We seek to hire an experienced and knowledgeable learning specialist teacher to join our Student Services
Team comprised of two lower school learning specialists and a social worker.
Requirements:
Degree in Special Education or related field
Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with endorsement for teaching Special Education (LBS1)
4 or more years’ teaching experience with grades four through eight
Record of effective performance using RTI models
Attributes:
Knowledge of progressive education teaching techniques and ability to address learning needs in the context of a progressive education
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Facility to create a positive, nurturing environment for students
A love and understanding of children and their developmental stages
Knowledge of current best practices in middle school education
Ability and the recognition to develop positive relationships with parents
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize
High level of stamina and self-initiation
Experience:
Teaching grades 6 and above with students in both inclusion and pull-out models
Working collaboratively with parents and outside providers as team partners
Familiarity with special education practices, strategies, documentation, and progress-monitoring
Coordinating staffing meetings
Supporting and encouraging teacher learning regarding accommodations and modifications
Creating Educational Service Plans
Writing reports and summaries of student growth
Serving on committees and engaging in team work and leadership as necessary
