Position Summary

Life Skills High Schools is hiring Subject Matter Experts to assist in the review & development of the Core Instructional program. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) possesses the expertise, experience, and academic knowledge required to review course content on matters of outcomes, standards and the technical inspection of the course(s) assigned. The SME works in conjunction with a Curriculum Designer and/or Instructional Designer (ID) to develop program and/or course learning outcomes, develop content, assignments, and assessments for courses, review currently designed course content, and consult on specific improvements needed for an assigned course. All deliverables created by the SME is the ownership of Life Skills High Schools LLC.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Discuss industry and discipline relevant key performance indicators with a curriculum designer or instructional designer to develop program and/or course outcomes
  • Advise designers on the alignment of course outcomes with program-specific outcomes, institutional level outcomes, and course vision
  • Consult with an instructional designer to develop course outline of modules and assignments
  • Author original module content in conjunction with an instructional designer where necessary
  • Author additional content for multimedia elements needed for the course where necessary
  • Participate in all scheduled design, review, and sign-off meetings
  • Meet all defined timelines throughout the course development/design process
  • Review course blueprint and course materials to provide feedback for revisions and improvements if needed
  • Provide a final review to ensure that a course meets expected academic rigor, module objectives and course objectives are met, and the course best represents the SME's area of expertise.
  • Respect the design team's role as experts when it comes to pedagogy and assessment.
  • Responsible for beta testing course

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

General

  • Meet the course-specific qualifications for a subject-matter expert as approved by the academic unit
    • 3+ years of successful experience working with students and faculty in an online and/or blended learning environment
  • 1+ years of online teaching experience in high school environment
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, particularly in working from a distance
  • Ability to meet pre-determined timelines despite geographic location

Education Program Specific

  • 3+ years of PreK-12 classroom teaching experience
  • Current educator certification/credential
  • Knowledge in area of PreK-12 curriculum and instruction development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education or Content Area
  • 3+ years of administration experience with curriculum oversight
  • Experience in using Learning Management Systems such as Canvas Instructure (preferred but not required)
  • Tech-savvy
