Spectrum Academy Classroom Paraprofessional Location: Spectrum Academy - Pleasant Grove Campus
Reports to: Administration
Hourly: Starting at $15.00 - $23.76; variable depending on previous classroom experience, applicable education, and severity of classroom
Job Type: Full-time (Hourly 37.5 hrs/week), Part-Time (29 hours or less) Benefits offered to FT Employees include the options for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Short-Term Disability.
Qualifications: Able to pass a background check Preferred: Experience in working with students on the autism spectrum Preferred: Previous experience working in a classroom setting
Education: (Transcripts required before formal offer given): HS Diploma, or equivalent, required Some college experience preferred
Overview: Spectrum Academy is a premier Charter School that specializes in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Approximately 80% of our student body receives Special Education services. Spectrum Academy employs classroom paraprofessionals (paras) as a unique part of our instructional model. Paras serve as hand-in-hand assistants to the classroom teacher in delivering instruction, maintaining classroom atmosphere, assisting with records and student legal parameters, and helping students to be able to navigate their classroom day.
Essential Job Functions:
Employee will need to be able to move, often quickly, to assist students, teachers, and other staff in daily responsibilities. Employee may be asked to escort students to various locations within the school, participate in physical activity with students, or assist students with other responsibilities as called upon. This position also requires an employee to be able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time or circulate around a given space to perform essential duties (ie; working with students)
Employee will need to utilize various electronic devices and methods for essential reporting, tracking, and other classroom/paraprofessional duties (please see duties and responsibilities list below for potential applications of this essential function)
Employee will be able to move/transport up to 30 pounds
Employee must be able to work in high-intensity environment that may have loud noises, student-caused disorganization, and employee must be capable to remain on task, in the classroom or any other school setting, while others are distracted
Employee must complete annual FERPA training and abide by all privacy and confidentiality laws in terms of student and other employee information

Possible job duties and responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): Working with students (both with and without disabilities) in a teaching capacity to assist the classroom teacher as assigned (large group, small group, one-to-one instructional settings)
Serving as the substitute teacher when the classroom teacher is in meetings or absent
Becoming familiar with any IEP mandated accommodations for students in the classroom and helping to facilitate the implementation of those accommodations
Assisting with data collection on SPED goals as assigned by the classroom instructor
Filling out and completing any reporting forms for incident, accident, or behavior that involve the para
Helping to facilitate scheduled student breaks as required in IEP accommodations
Monitoring work, correcting papers, and supervising curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the classroom instructor
Assisting in clerical, classroom management, and instructional duties as assigned by the classroom instructor
Performing assigned supervision of students during lunch and play periods; participating in assigned carpool duties, and assisting with supervision on field trips
Performing non-instructional classroom duties such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines [Dependent on classroom needs]
After training, exhibiting proficiency in major technology pieces used in classroom instruction [CANVAS, Aspire, Envision Math, Chromebooks, Projectors, Copiers, etc.]
Other duties as assigned Additional responsibilities and duties may apply for Paraprofessionals that work in moderate/severe classrooms with students that require increased personal and academic interventions.
