Maintenance
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, to maintain school buildings and building and grounds in orderly, neat, safe and operable condition.
Essential Job Functions
Appropriate safety precautions to be used at all times while performing essential duties.
Communicate with other staff and Building Administration in an effective and timely manner.
Work cooperatively with other staff members.
Assume responsibility for the safe condition of all assigned areas and/or equipment operated/repaired.
Assume responsibility of all assigned work orders and building maintenance items.
Consult with the immediate Supervisor and the Director of Facilities regarding any observed safety or problem areas.
Report any accidents or unsafe incidents to the immediate Supervisor and/or Director of Facilities.
Operate, troubleshoot, and repair district facilities, equipment, and related systems, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and/or other technical operations, necessary to establish and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning.
Monitor and maintain all HVAC and building systems/controls to optimize electrical consumption and ensure a maximum life cycle.
Installation and repair of various industrial and commercial systems in compliance with plumbing, mechanical, and/or electrical codes.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment
Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including saws, drills, routers, planers, sanders, jointers, and stationary power equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods and procedures in the carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades.
- Knowledge of building code conformance standards for carpentry, plumbing, electricity, electrical installation, and repair.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and resolve electrical or electricity issues.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used.
- Wears appropriate safety gear.
Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Ability to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces.
- Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade.
- Occasional strenuous physical work.
- Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
Qualifications Profile
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School Diploma.
- Successful experience in building and grounds maintenance, and repair.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
