Position: Substitute Teacher
Employment: Professional/Exempt/At-Will
Reports To: Building Principal
Position Summary: MOT Charter is a small school on a mission to provide a high quality learning experience for our students. We are currently looking to expand our pool of substitutes at both the K8 and High School Campus. The substitute teacher will, like all teachers at MOT Charter, have a passion for education and a desire to be an integral part of a school that provides a first class learning experience maximizing our students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
Planning and Preparation
- Communicate with teachers whenever possible before substituting to ensure a thorough understanding of the content and its implementation.
- Arrive at school on time and be available through the end of the school day or until all students have been dismissed.
- Complete non-instructional duties as assigned, including supervising student arrival and dismissal, supervising recess and/or supervising lunch.
- Be familiar with school emergency procedures, and specific classroom procedures, such as those used for fire emergencies, shelter-in-place and lock downs.
- Document and communicate issues related to student behavior with the teacher, and if necessary, the school’s Counselor or an administrator.
- Be familiar with information provided by the teacher regarding special student concerns such as 504 plans, IEPs and student health issues.
- Implement teacher’s lesson plans, seeking assistance from grade level team members or the front office when additional information is needed.
- Offer content and instruction that ensures achievement of school’s academic standards.
- Maintains a growth mindset for themselves and students.
- Provide a classroom atmosphere based on the principles of firm, fair, and consistent practices, respect for individual children, and development of responsible citizenship.
- In all respects, support the school, the school’s mission and the school’s leadership.
- Collaborate with other faculty in order to provide a positive experience for students.
- Conduct one’s self according to professional, ethical principles. .
- Adhere to all school policies for both students and personnel.
- Display personal qualities that reflect favorably upon the individual, the group, and the school.
- Demonstrate genuine concern for students in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations.
- Adhere to all procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Manual.
- Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the school regarding personal interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- A four year degree or related experience is preferred.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools
- Ability to model kindness, respect and responsibility to peers, students and families
