Position Title: Custodian
Department: Maintenance & Transportation
Reports to: Director, Maintenance and Transportation and School Principal
1 FTE $14.90 per hour with a benefit package
Summary:
- Performs cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned space. During the normal school year, the work shift will be evenings, Monday through Friday, commencing near the hour of school dismissal. During Christmas break and summer, the schedule will be day shift hours. Overtime will be occasionally required to cover special activities and staff absences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Secures buildings by locking doors, windows, and restricting unauthorized access and use.
- Prepares buildings and classrooms for next day use.
- Utilizes power equipment, hand tools, and cleaning products such as brooms, dry mops, wet mops, vacuum, extractors, and shampooers, required for cleaning and general maintenance of hard floors, carpet, walls, and furniture.
- Empty waste baskets, trash containers, clean chalk/white boards, dust, vacuum, clean windows, dry mop, and wet mop.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms thoroughly, restocking paper products.
- Set up and remove chairs, tables, podium, electronics, etc., as required for special events.
- Clean and maintain building entries both inside and outside.
- Maintain assigned outdoor space, picking up trash and emptying receptacles at the beginning of each shift.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance including changing light bulbs, furniture moving, clock adjustments, etc.
- Notify supervisor of areas that need repair by maintenance staff such as electrical, plumbing, and heating issues.
- Read, interpret, and respond to verbal and written instructions, facility requests, and labels on chemicals and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Gym and locker room custodian
All duties mentioned above, including:
- Maintain calendar to stay informed of all activities utilizing gym facilities including sports practices, games, dances, scheduled public events, concerts, graduation, etc.
- Stage facilities for events in a timely manner, including bleachers, raising baskets, scoreboards, sound systems, clean locker rooms, clean entries, etc.
- Clean up after activities leaving all facilities prepared for the next day's use.
- Willing to work considerable overtime, late hours, and weekends throughout the year as assigned.
Performance Criteria:
- Carries out all job duties following established Corvallis School District #1 policies, procedures, and practices consistent with the mission and philosophy of the school.
- Responsible for promoting a safe work culture. Performs all tasks in a proper and safe manner following established policies, general safety rules, and safe operating procedures.
- Demonstrates an attitude of collaboration, cooperation and collegiality by the use of excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills in a spirit of team play in order to assure high quality outcomes for all students, staff, and community members.
- Attends and participates in departmental studies and projects, workshops, seminars, etc.
- Willingly assumes other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Transportation.
Equipment Used to Perform Job:
- Standard janitorial equipment.
Critical Physical Demands:
- Ability to remain on one's feet for 100% of the working shift.
- Able to reach above shoulder level many times per shift.
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Able to perform standard physical demands expected in this position.
Employment Term:
- 12 months.
