ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
ASE Certified Bus Mechanic
Class B Driver’s License
Must pass school bus driver physical examination
Must possess and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching; routinely lift and carry parts and equipment 15-75 pounds; possess manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion. Work around moving objects or vehicles; fumes, solvents, grease and oil. May work under conditions of inclement weather. Generally the job requires 80% standing, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Equipment Used: Small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torch, jack, lift equipment, vehicle diagnostic, repair equipment, personal computer, fax machine, phone, and copier.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, helps plan, schedule, and perform repair and preventative maintenance of the district bus fleet. Also assists in the maintenance of cars, trucks, and other motorized equipment; prepare and maintain related records, and other related duties as required.
ABILITIES
Use materials and equipment necessary in the repair and maintenance of buses and other motorized vehicles.
Follow and give verbal and written instructions and directions.
Work cooperatively with others.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Read, interpret, understand, and apply technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, specifications, and parts catalog.
Interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to the assigned programs and functions.
Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Perform responsible and minor mechanical repair work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
