Elementary School Reading Specialist
Description
SUMMARY
Provide classroom instruction designed to improve reading skills and functional literacy for selected students in all lower school classes. Plan and oversee individual tutorial programs for selected struggling readers. Provide leadership, development, and implementation of the PreK-6 reading program in general.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Partner with faculty and administration to support students with different learning styles and teachers in their efforts to advance students with reading needs
Observe and evaluate students displaying academic difficulties with reading to assess their strengths and weaknesses
Participate in classroom instruction as needed.
Direct one-on-one or small group reading instruction.
Develop student accommodation plans.
Provide regular written student progress reports to parents and school with assessment results, recommendations of diagnostic testing and remediation.
Coordinate and facilitate communication between student, family school and other professionals.
Pursue professional development opportunities.
Organize professional development opportunities for lead classroom teachers on reading interventions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or higher with major in assigned area.
Valid Reading Specialist certificate
Minimum of 3 years of experience
