Lake Station Community Schools is seeking a Basketball Coach – Girls Head – Varsity, for its girls basketball athletic program interested candidates should apply online.

Job Purpose
To lead, coordinate and deliver a high-quality coaching program for the Eagles Girls Basketball program, that increases participation and performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To create and implement a high-quality coaching program, to maximize student participation and performance of competitive teams.
To undertake the necessary planning for each activity session to ensure the program demonstrates progression throughout the entire program linked to the principles of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD).
To lead and coordinate the delivery of an innovative athletic program, to attract new participants of all levels and create pathways for continued participation.
To ensure all equipment associated with the coaching program is correctly set up, maintained, used, stored and returned on completion of the coaching program
Promote and increase awareness of the Girls Basketball program within Lake Station Edison and community.
To implement appropriate policies and procedures in line with Lake Station Edison expectations.
To adhere to the policies and guidelines set forth by the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), the governing body for athletics in Indiana.
To provide appropriate mentoring, support and guidance to other coaches, players and student volunteers in your program at levels.
To continually monitor and evaluate all practices, activities, games, and programs with leadership and provide the Edison Administration and/or Athletic Director with concise communication about the sports program.
To take responsibility for their own continuous professional development and attend relevant training courses to improve their coaching delivery.

Personnel Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Hold a High School Diploma/GED

Desirable

Hold a bachelor's degree, preferably in Education.
Hold a valid first aid/CPR certification.

Experience

Essential

A minimum of 3 years Varsity sports coaching experience as an assistant or head coach, in a paid or voluntary capacity, ideally in a range of environments including: schools/clubs/community/college level settings.

Desirable

5 years or more Varsity sports previous head coaching experience in a paid or voluntary capacity, ideally in a range of environments including schools/clubs/community/college level settings.

Skills & Competencies

Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to delegate effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong planning ability with excellent organizational skills.
Ability and willingness to work outside of normal hours, including evening and weekends.
Must be self-motivated with the ability to enthuse a wide range of participants.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage a group of student-athletes effectively.
Ability to manage a staff and lower level programs.
Ability to positively motivate/direct student-athletes.
Attend all practices/training sessions to include all gym and field sessions.
Solution orientated.
Resilient with a can-do attitude.

Desirable

Sound understanding of the sport and the role of head/assistant coach therein in a sport program setting.

Coaching stipend for this position: $6,605.00
