Primary Purpose and Function
Lead and motivate students in a collaborative endeavor of rigorous learning and instruction

ASPIRA educators are planners, using the effective principles of backwards design as set forth in Understanding by Design.  We plan for our instruction so that every minute with our students is used to help them grow.  ASPIRA educators utilize data in many forms in order to inform instructional decisions. 
ASPIRA educators create a positive classroom environment for all students, holding all in the school community to high expectations for behavior, communication and academics. ASPIRA classrooms are inclusive environments and students with IEPs and ELL needs are part of the vibrant landscape of everyone’s classroom.
ASPIRA educators are part of a Professional Learning Community (PLC).  Within the PLC, colleagues collaborate, plan and work together towards a common goal of student success.  ASPIRA educators seek to expand their professional practice by participating in professional development and seeking opportunities to hone their craft.  We seek regular feedback and support and accept constructive suggestions in order to improve.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design and implement unit and lesson plans utilizing Common Core State Standards and backwards design
  • Create and maintain a positive and achievement-oriented learning environment
  • Establish systems of accountability for students and self
  • Utilize formative, summative and anecdotal data in differentiating instruction for all students
  • Provide RtI and relentlessly pursue appropriate interventions to facilitate learning for all
  • Apply and understand PBIS in classroom and throughout the school setting
  • Communicate with parents regularly in order to inform about student progress and engage them in the instructional program
  • Serve as a member of grade level and departmental teams, making a significant contribution in order to help drive student success
  • Collaborate and communicate with colleagues in a true professional learning community
  • Craft professional goals in order to improve professional practice and student achievement
  • Maintain records in accordance with school, city, state and federal regulations
  • Actively participate in faculty/team, open houses, parent conferences, educational conferences, training workshops and other related activities
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal
Educational Requirements

·         A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field

·         Illinois professional educator license with appropriate endorsements; additional ESL endorsement preferred

Prior Experience

·         A minimum of two years of experience working with middle or high school students

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Track record of positive impact on student achievement
  • Life-long learner who is receptive to feedback
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
