GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Replacement Contract January 14, 2019 - May 28, 2019

The ESL teacher is the member of the educational team who has the primary responsibility to develop the
English proficiency of students who are second language learners and to respond to their emotional, social
and academic needs. The ESL teacher acts as a resource for multicultural information for their schools.
The ESL teacher collaborates with any and all school personnel on behalf of the ESL student.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.

A. Instructional Management
1. Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program.
2. Skillfully presents subject matter.
3. Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment.
4. Appropriately plans and develops assessment activities.
B. Professional and Personal Attitudes and Characteristics
5. Complies with administrative policies within the department, school, and district.
6. Shows evidence of professional growth.
7. Communicates effectively.
8. Is receptive to new approaches and various points of view.
9. Maintains professional behavior.
10. Shows respect, concern, and warmth to children and adults.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability
to read, analyze and interpret testing and survey results, financial reports and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers
or members of the school community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that
conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to
administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program. Ability to
plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to
whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students,
peers, parents and community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral
communication. Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping. Ability
to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and

50 pounds.
