Description

Position Purpose 
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Speech/Language Pathologist will assist in developing speech, language, and communication skills to facilitate students' personal communication abilities and overall educational development. 

  1. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of effective best practice speech/language therapy protocols
  2. Provide individual and group speech therapy services; collaborate with other building professionals to provide group services when appropriate
  3. Utilize assessments to conduct IDEA or Section 504 evaluations for the purpose of evaluating students' speech/language and communucation needs; prepare reports with recommendations in a timely manner; present findings in an understandable way at team and parent meetings
  4. Schedule, complete thorough paperwork for, and facilitate Evaluation/Eligibility and IEP meetings for students eligible under 'Speech/Language Impairment'
  5. Identify, create and implement data-based speech and language IEP goals; collect regular data on goal progress; submit quarterly goal updates on time
  6. Maintain confidential records on the progress of each student on the designated caseload
  7. Provide resources and supports to teachers and parents; provide teachers with communication support tools and support implementation of alternate communication tools within the classroom
  8. Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive speech and language services
  9. Utilize screening tools to identify students in need of MTSS services; provide services and maintain data-based progress log
  10. Assist with Preschool Screening
  11. Maintain accurate service log and regularly submit Medicaid billing
  12. Other duties as assigned

Additional Duties 
-  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Services, Principal, or Superintendent. 
  
Equipment 
-  Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. 
  
Travel Requirements 
-  Travels to professional meetings as required. 
  
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities 
-  Knowledge of Speech and Language principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven therapy protocols.
-  Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. 
-  Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. 
-  Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. 
-  Ability to organize and coordinate work. 
-  Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. 
-  Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. 
-  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. 
  
Qualifications Profile

Certification/License: 
- Illiniois Professional Educators License in Speech/Languge Pathology

Education: 
-  Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to assignment. 
-  Masters Degree in Speech/Language Pathology. 

Experience: 
-  Successful prior experience in elementary or middle school settings is preferred.
