Hackett School District
Description
Hackett Public Schools opened its doors on September 2, 1895. The building was a three story brown stone edifice one quarter of a mile west of Hackett. It could accommodate two hundred and fifty pupils, some of whom boarded with private families. The first principal was M.L. Broom. One of the first year's contracts was for W.M. Lane and included a hefty salary of $155.00 a month. In 1929 the new highway 45 was constructed through Hackett. The schools were consolidated into District #17 and a new building was built on the east side of town. Hackett Public Schools has an elementary school campus and a high school campus serving students in grades kindergarten through twelve.
