Teacher Special Education- Henrico Jail East and West
Must hold a license issued by any agency.
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Autism, Deaf-Blind, Early Intervention Specialist, Educational Diagnostician, Emotional Behavior Disabilities, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Severe/Profound Disabilities, Special Education (General), Traumatic Brain Injury, Visual Impairment.
The license status must be active.
Essential Duties Works with students with disabilities who have with various academic achievement levels to provide education services which are comparable to those in a public school in an adult correctional facility Coordinates the special education program within both adult correctional facilities for Henrico County in combination with special education teaching duties Maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning in a restrictive setting and evaluates students on a regular basis to assist them in setting and maintaining standards of classroom behavior Teaches in both collaborative and pullout instructional settings (Collaboration occurs within 2 Pre-GED and 2 GED classrooms and pull-out takes place as needed to adjoining classroom space when needed and available.) Establishes high academic expectations for students by employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media Functions as a team member on an interdisciplinary team Communicates with other staff in planning instructional goals and objectives Works in collaboration with the educational administration, teachers, and other correctional facility staff Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by special education law and division policy regulations Complies with and enforces school rules, State and Federal Regulations and School Board Policies and Procedures Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other professional meetings called by the administrative staff Travels between Jail West and Jail East as required Interviews new arrivals to the jail who are under 22 weekly in both locations to determine educational needs Attends work daily and be engaged an on task Performs other school duties and assignments as appointed Manages small state Special Education instructional materials budget associated with position
