S_Education Specialist for Library Media Services
Must hold a license issued by Virginia Department of Education.
The license must be in Eligibility License.
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Audiologist, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Functional Behavioral Specialist, Occupational Therapist, Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Physical Therapist, School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist/Therapist.
The license must be in one of the following grades: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.
The license status must be active.
Essential Duties - Provides support for instruction in information literacy, development of library collections and the administration of library media programs. - Assists librarians in all components of collection and library media program development. - Plans and implements a comprehensive professional development program for librarians. - Promotes collaboration between librarians and teachers. - Collaborates with librarians and teachers to create environments that are conducive to active and participatory learning and ensures resource-based instructional practices. - Develops and maintains an up to date, culturally diverse collection of print and non-print resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, the instructional strategies used and reflective of students’ interest. - Provides leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in varied formats. - Assumes a leadership role in modeling and teaching the skills necessary to access, evaluate and use resources effectively and responsibly for librarians, teachers, students and administrators. - Utilizes available statistics to make data-driven financial and program development decisions regarding the library collection and program. - Collects and analyzes data to ensure continuous improvement of the program. - Ensures that the library program goals are aligned with the district’s long range strategic plan. - Ensures equitable and ethical use of information. - Supervises and coordinates the activities of the central library processing staff for the division. - Develops and implements plans for presenting and publicizing library media programs and services. - Coordinates and chairs the school division’s Instructional Materials Review Committee for challenged materials. - Plans and monitors the Book Review Center. - Seeks and administers grants. - Coordinates the acquisition and purchase of electronic information resources for the division’s library media centers. - Oversees and participates in the preparation of the operating budget for library media services. - Communicates district policies concerning such issues as materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy and acceptable use. - Stays abreast of national and state standards, and current trends and issues of assigned content area and best practice; serve on a variety of state and local committees. - Attends work daily and be engaged in job responsibilities - Performs other duties as assigned
