Description

A Community Education Outreach Specialist:

Actively engages parents from all grade levels to volunteer in the school;
Provides oral and written translation in Spanish for families during their regularly scheduled
hours;
Provides students and families with academic and non-academic resources and services;
Identifies and performs needs assessments to homeless, foster care, and refugee students
and families to ensure they receive services;
Directs families to community resources and social service agencies for support;
Directs families to appropriate services provided by local, city, state, and county service
agencies;
Coordinates with the Effective School Coach, teachers, Community Education
Department and District staff to provide family engagement opportunities, parent training
and student support services, including the school's Academic Parent-Teacher Teams;
Organizes volunteers to academic activity packets;
Organizes childcare and oral interpretation for parent meetings, and APPT;

Provides regularly scheduled parent connection/parent education meetings;
Provides parents with coaching and mentoring as it relates to students' academic needs;
Engages in professional development opportunities to continuously improve family
engagement in education practices;
Maintains accurate files for annual Title I documentation, including Family Engagement,
services for Homeless Children & Youth (HCY) (McKinney-Vento), Foster Care Education
and program evaluation for other family engagement programs (e.g. Academic Parent
Teacher Teams (APIT), etc.)
Maintains direct contact and close working relationships with other Community Education
and Outreach Specialists and Community Education staff to ensure communication,
collaboration, and shared services;
Attends scheduled trainings (e.g., bi-weekly, monthly, etc.) provided by the Community
Education Director;
Coordinates schools' parent engagement in Pre-K to Kindergarten transition and middle
school to high school & college transition activities; and,
Performs related work as assigned.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, one year of post-high school training and three years of
experience; or an equivalent combination of directly-related education and experience.

Required Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License.
Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP).
